(MAHWAH, NJ) – Eind september kondigde Land Rover een off-road rijvaardigheidswedstrijd aan voor haar Noord-Amerikaanse dealers, Land Rover TReK 2020, die dit jaar zal worden gehouden tijdens de lancering van de langverwachte New Land Rover Defender. Met de lancering van de nieuwe Defender zal de Land Rover-productlijn worden uitgebreid naar drie families van zeer capabele voertuigen: Range Rover, Discovery en Defender.
Land Rover TReK 2020 is een tweedaagse competitie voor Land Rover Retailer-medewerkers, bestaande uit een voorlopig kwalificatie evenement en een laatste evenement, in het leven geroepen om verkoop-, service- en technisch personeel op te leiden en uit te dagen middels een verscheidenheid aan off-road ervaringen uit de eerste hand. De competitie combineert vaardigheid in off-road rijden, navigatie en teamsamenwerking dat daarmee tevens enkele van de beste off-road rijders in de VS en Canada test.
De competitie van dit jaar plaatst 53 drie-koppige teams – die elk de verschillende verkoopregio’s voor Land Rover in de VS en Canada vertegenwoordigen – tegenover elkaar in team-tegen-groep uitdagingen. De teams zullen strijden in een reeks van 53 identiek op maat gemaakte 2020 Land Rover Discovery SUV’s voor de voorlopige kwalificatiewedstrijden die deze week plaatsvinden in het Land Rover Experience Center op het Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.
Het winnende team van elk onderdeel van de competitie gaat vervolgens naar de TReK-finale in januari 2020 in Palm Springs, Californië, waar ze strijd zullen leveren met de nieuwe 2020 Land Rover Defender.

De herintroductie van de TReK-competitie loopt vooruit op de terugkeer van de familie Defender naar het merk Land Rover. Het vorige generatiemodel van de Defender stopte in 2016 met de wereldwijde productie en is al meer dan 20 jaar afwezig op de Amerikaanse markt, voor het laatst aangeboden voor het modeljaar 1997.
De originele TReK-competitie werd in 1996 opgericht naar het beeld van de iconische Camel Trophy, maar dan als een Amerikaanse, specifieke activiteit voor het netwerk van dealers om hun off-road expertise te versterken tijdens één dag van uitdagend off-road rijden. Van 1996 tot 2003 werden deze jaarlijkse wedstrijden in het hele land gehouden. In 2001, na vijf jaar succes in Noord-Amerika, heeft TReK zijn invloed uitgebreid middels de eerste wereldwijde TReK-competitie in Zuid-Afrika. De laatste Land Rover TReK-wedstrijd werd gehouden in 2003 in Colorado.

(MAHWAH, N.J.) – September 23, 2019 – Today, Land Rover announced an off-road driving skills competition for its North American retailers, Land Rover TReK 2020, to be held this year during the launch of the highly anticipated New Land Rover Defender. With the launch of the New Defender, the Land Rover product lineup will expand to three families of highly-capable vehicles: Range Rover, Discovery and Defender.
Land Rover TReK 2020 is a two-day competition for Land Rover Retailer staff, comprised of a preliminary qualifying event and final event, designed to educate and challenge sales, service and technician personnel with a variety of first-hand off-road experiences. The competition combines skills testing in off-road driving, navigation and team collaboration to test some of the best off-road driving experts across the U.S. and Canada.
This year’s competition will pit 53 three-person teams – each representing the various sales regions for Land Rover across the U.S. and Canada – against each other in head to head team and group challenges. The teams will compete in a series of 53 identically customized 2020 Land Rover Discovery SUVs for the preliminary qualifying trials taking place this week at the Land Rover Experience Center at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.
The winning team from each wave of the competition will then head to the TReK Finals held in January 2020 in Palm Springs, California, where they will compete with the New 2020 Land Rover Defender.

The reintroduction of the TReK competition is timed ahead of the return of the Defender family to the Land Rover brand. The previous generation model of the Defender ceased global production in 2016 and has been absent from the U.S. market for more than 20 years, last being offered for the 1997 model year.
The original TReK competition was established in 1996 in the image of the iconic Camel Trophy as a U.S.-specific activity for the retailer network to bolster their off-road expertise in one day of immersive off-roading. From 1996 through 2003 these annual competitions were held across the country. In 2001, following five years of success in North America, TReK expanded its influence when the first global TReK competition was held in South Africa. The last Land Rover TReK competition was held in 2003 in Colorado.
